SAKHI ROHANI

PHOTOGRAPHY - FILMMAKING

Sakhi describes himself as a calm guy, who is excited about meeting new people and in touch with his emotions. In the past Sakhi worked with painting houses for three years, but he has found a love for photography and filmmaking and now wants a career as a photographer. He hopes to get a positive asylum decision and to move to a different country. About photography he says;

“I like taking landscape photos, but I also really like taking portraits. I like capturing people's different expressions and emotions. I also like how faces are so different, no one is the same, one is interesting, one is handsome, one is funny.”

His favourite photo that he has taken is one that is in the exhibition. It’s a portrait of a little girl with beautiful eyes and an animated face. He thinks it’s interesting because he was able to capture the girls’ expression and he feels very happy with it.

IN HIS FIRST SEASON WITH REFOCUS, SAKHI HAS ALSO ADVANCED HIS filmmaking skills, working on documentary, narrative and social media concepts. In his first film project our students were guided by teaching artists Magda Zambrycka and pawel rozek. BOTH FROM POLAND, WHERE THE NOVEL AND NETFLIX SERIES “THE witcher” is a cult classic, they asked our students to develop a concept centering upon what makes people in society special, almost super-human. When asked Sakhi said, “If I had powers I would have liberated my country”

on subsequent projects Sakhi worked on creating social media videos for a client- @DCRVolleyball on lesvos, and his own short narrative film “the dream” which turns out to be quite auto-biographical.

For Sakhi, these early filmmaking experiences, “…they were amazing. I know more about filming and editing now. It was very hard but also exciting. It was a good experience for me.”
